How to Create a Dial-Up Connection in Windows XPrev.20020928
Part 1: Create a New Connection
1. Click Start menu, then click Control Panel. Note: If you are using "Classic" mode, you must click Start, Settings, then Control Panel 2. Click the Switch to Classic View icon. 3. Double-click the Network Connections icon. 4. Click the Create a New Connection icon. Click Next. 5. Select Connect to the Internet. Click Next. 6. Select Set up my connection Manually. Click Next. 7. Select Connect using a dial-up Modem. Click Next. 8. In the ISP Name field, type WeirNet. Click Next. 9. In the Phone number field, type your local access number exactly as it needs to be dialed.
If you need to call area code, add "1-304-" in front of number. To disable call-waiting, add "*70," in front of number. Click Next. 10. Type your WeirNet username: ________________ (Important: must use all lowercase letters, with no extra spaces) 11. Type your WeirNet password in the Password and Confirm password fields. 12. check the box for "Use this account name and password when anyone connects...." 13. check the box for "Make this the default Internet connection." 14. check the box for "Turn on Internet Connection Firewall...." Click Next. 15. Check the box for Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop. Click Finish. 16. Close all windows.
PART 2: Connecting and Browsing Use your "Shortcut to WeirNet" to dial-in and establish a connection. Then begin browsing the 'Net using your "Internet Explorer" (the blue "e" icon on your desktop).
